Tell us who you are and what you do?
My name is Pawcut  and i am a music lover, record collector and beat maker from Germany.
I make sample-based beats from scratch to mixdown and i also engineer vocal tracks.

How did you come up with your name?

When i was still dj-ing like 8-10 years back we had a party and i needed a name for the flyer.  I just returned from the USA and had a little college team flag hanging above my turntables. It showed a bear standing upright and the way his paws looked was like he was cutting records! kutztown university baby :) The name Pawcut was born .I am quite happy with it, besides me, google only shows up with dog grooming saloons. :)

Tell us about your studio set-up/space

As you can see it in the picture, i work in our 'former' living room.
The center pieces of my set up are a quad core pc, my Yamaha hs 80s monitors, Ni's maschine , ni' s  komplete audio6 soundcard, Ableton live 8, a cheap oxygen8 midi keyboard and a Numark ttx turntable.

How did you become a music producer?

Dunno, i started and once i was in the loop a lil i couldn't stop anymore.
There are special moments in music production that are really addictive. That snap moment when a misty idea becomes a concrete vision. Everything becomes sharp and clear in your mind.  You know you have what you were looking for and the rest is a road you just have to keep on walking down. That great moment when a sample works a special way with the drumbreak that lights up your mind. Priceless moments i couldnt live without
.

Who are your biggest influences?

It may sound played out, but i'm trying to do my own thing, sure there are influences like RZA, Doom, Dilla,  Madlib, Shadow or Pete Rock .

What encourages you to carry on with music?

The way it feels making it. I am a grumpy old guy.  Music is my way to talk to the outside and express my feelings without having to feel pathetic. It gives me the feeling to own something that you cant buy.

How would you define your progression through music, from where you started to where you are now?

I would define it as a long autodidact trial and error. The way i just started walking. Progression never stops!

What do you think about the music industry and independent hip hop at the moment? Where do you think things are going in the next few years?

Honestly,  i don't even think about stuff like the music industry and where it goes!

What have you been listening to recently?

A lot of  John Coltrane, lots of old french and Italian soundtrack composers like Francois de Roubaix, obscure progressive and psych rock .... i listen to Sean P a lot when it comes to rapping.

What is your biggest personal music achievement?

Hmmm , if we are talking bout achievement in terms of success and numbers, it is the response my debut has had. It has been far beyond my expectations. It has been downloaded over 1.500 times in the first 3 weeks already! I am really humbled about that.

Tell us about your new album 'The Stuff That Dreams are Made Of'

It dropped on the 8th October on the 'Dusted Wax Kingdom' net label. Very cool people btw. It is a 7 track ep with a selection of tracks i made over the past 2 years that i felt captured the Pawcut vibe. The whole album is sample and drum break based, except for two bass spots. There's not a single drum or software sound from factory libraries on it.  Also i never use fake vinyl crackles and this particular project doesnt even use timestretch. Beyond that i'll rather let the music do the talking.

What is your next big project, any big plans coming up?

Big is a big word :) I think i will release another instrumental ep in spring/summer or something. I have three concepts in mind. I'm not sure  which one i will go for yet. Space, Classic Jazz, or  suspense soundtrack shit!

If you could work with any artist, who would it be?

Sean P, Ghostface Killa , Jean Grea, or Bilal.

Any last words?
Big bow to all the composers and musicians i had the honour sampling, they are the essence of my work. Big thanks to all the people that download and listen to my stuff, and big thanks to Conflict for the oppurtunity.
