Tell us who you are and what you do?
Some of you might know me as Lucas Korek and others as KoreX Productions but most of you already know that this is same thing. I keep most of my sites, especially social networks under “Lucas Korek” as I feel this makes it easier and helps to communicate with people. Nobody really wants to chat to anyone whose surname is 'Productions', right? I am London, UK based independent producer.
How did you come up with your name?
This one is simple really, basically when I was a teenager my friends gave me this nickname “Korek” and i haven`t changed it since then.
Tell us about your studio set-up/space
Nothing big really, all I use at the moment is my laptop, a pair of Rokits, HD`s205 and simple midi controller all connected to FL Studio. Space wise 2sqm hehe. I have plans to get new gear soon but need to get the space sorted first.
How did you become a music producer?
We could call it an accident. I always wanted to play piano, we all know London`s flats ain`t really designed for you to have a piano in there plus there is always someone to complain about the noise so the answer was to get an electronic keyboard, but having second thoughts I decided to go for a midi controller plugged in to my pc and FL Studio to record some of my progress. From day one it was pretty obvious my soul has been sold to the Beats Devil.
Who are your biggest influences?
Not sure what I should say on this. I never really had a favourite artist. For me it always was “a good track”. People split music between many different genres and it`s cool for putting your music archive together but unfortunately many simply limit themselves to one or two genres .Saying all this, definitely my biggest influence is life, i never thought about it but I guess somewhere deep in my music you can find all that music I`ve been listening to and all mixed with random events of my life.
What encourages you to carry on with music?
I can easily say I love music, no doubt. But having the opportunity to be part of it this is something on a completely new level and there is no way you can`t love it! On top of that, fans are your motor I think. Every single feedback makes you wanna go back to your lab straight away and grind even harder!
What do you think about the music industry and independent hip hop at the moment? Where do you think things are going in the next few years?
I try stay away from the politics and i haven't listened to much radio recently so i might just leave this with no comment. I guess everyone knows what kind of artists the present mainstream promotes.
I have no doubt that on sites like soundcloud there is a mad amount of talent. As for the future, I think music sites and social networks will take over the radio /telly and most likely we are going to see the mainstream going underground at some point.
What have you been listening to recently?
Since my adventure has started all the music ilisten to comes from underground artists on Soundcloud!
Biggest personal music achievement?
My biggest achievements is having all the talented underground artists working with me. Every single collab is the biggest reward for my work.
What is your next big project, do you have any big plans coming up?
As for now it`s really hard to tell as things are happening so quickly you can`t really make your mind up on this but i'll definitely be taking 2012 Productions that I run with S.DOT Beats to the next level. I will continue working with artists around the world on singles and complete albums, and most importantly keeping KoreX Productions on the right track. In the future? Well... we`ll see where all this gonna take me.
Any last words?
Yes, big thanks to all my fans and supporters for helping me with this music journey .
Lucas Korek
