Tell us who you are and what you do?
My name is Inspecta Morze. I am a UK Hip Hop Producer who makes 90's Boom Bap style instrumentals. I grew up in Romford, Essex starting out as a rapper but quickly fell in love with producing instrumentals.

How did you come up with your name?
I used to graffiti when I was younger and Morze was my tag that was given to me by a friend who had given up graffiti. Once I discovered the Wu Tang Clan, Inspectah Deck was one of my favourite rappers. There is also a tv programme called Inspector Morse. So with all three combined I ended up with Inspecta Morze.

Tell us about your studio set-up/space?
All my equipment is in my bedroom, unfortunately. I have a laptop with FL Studio 8 installed, this is what I make most of my beats on. I know a lot of people seem to think that you have to use Cubase, Reason or Logic to be a good producer, I disagree. I think FL Studio is perfect, I find it easy to use and my work flow is reasonably quick when using it. I also have a MPC 500 which I don't use as much but I am a part of the TAG Team and we play instrumentals live as a group using our MPC's. I have KRK Rokit 5 G2 Monitors which I worked hard to save up for and I am so glad I have purchased them. Also, I have a SE 2200A condenser microphone which is collecting dust at the moment where I haven't recorded for a while, mainly due to lack of studio engineer for mixing and mastering.

How did you become a music producer?
It started about 3 years ago when my ex girlfriend went on holiday in August. I was stuck at home with nothing to do for 2 weeks. I thought I would try to do something constructive and teach myself how to produce. I started off making grime beats but after a year or so I was introduced to old school hip hop and was quick to fall in love with it. It took me a while to figure out exactly what I wanted to do with music so it's only been a year since I've been taking it seriously and actually developed my own style. Along the way I have had many influences which I will discuss in the next question.

Who are your biggest influences?
Well my first influence was a DnB/House/Dubstep producer called Sam James. He used to make grime, way before i started producing, this was when I was an MC. He used to make beats for me and I became intrigued by it so it sparked off my interest in that area of music. Then I met Dj Evi Denz, a hip hop producer who tought me about hip hop. He would tell me about certain rappers and producers, then I would go and research them for hours on end until I knew everything. He also showed me how to use my MPC 500, he was the reason I wanted one. I had never heard of an MPC before I started talking to him. After a while of experimenting I found out about Neckclippa. He produced the style of beats I wanted to do and has tought me a lot about producing and hip hop. By this time my style was influenced by Neckclippa, Havoc, Charlemagne, Lord Finesse, Buckwild, Nick Wiz, Nujabes, Fat Jon, Sulee B Wax and Kick Back.

What encourages you to carry on with music?
I can't live without it, there's times where I feel like I want to walk away from it but I just can't. So I have no option but to carry on. Making a track with a dope rapper always helps motivate me to keep going. I hope that one day I can be up there collaborating with my favourite rappers, I would rather the achievements than the money.

What do you think about the music industry and independent hip hop at the moment? Where do you think things are going in the next few years?
Right now i think the music industry is diabolical. Everyone is out to get rich so they all produce the same 'garbage over techno beats' (as Hopsin says) because they know it will sell. I can't see the interest in modern music no more. Although the new SlaughterHouse album should be pretty dope! Independent hip hop is better but is still saturated with people who only want the fame and money. There aren't many modern day rappers I listen to. Where do I think things are going? Honestly? I haven't got a clue. From being on youtube I know that there are many people who still enjoy the real hip hop so I am hoping it will come back around.

What have you been listening to recently?
Joe Budden gets played every single day, he is a genius. Hopsing has caught my ear lately aswell, reminds me of Slim Shady so I think thats why I like him. Hollohan the GOD's My Lost Love freestyle has been on repeat, realest shit I ever heard. Da Youngstas Illy Funkstas have been getting some plays from me lately, they were dope. Capone N Noreaga's The War Report is one of my favourite albums of all time. Halfway Thugs is a track well worth checking out, the production is tight! I listen to Mobb Deep quite a bit aswell, not as much lately though. Ill Al Skratch have an album called Creep Wit Me which is full of summetime hip hop, that has been played a lot. Dirty Dike is dope too, a rapper from the UK with a comedic twist in his lyrics, like 2kolderz but less violent. 2kolderz, Newz, Illone and Dan Downing are some of the very few UK rappers I listen to. They are well worth checking out.

Biggest personal music achievement?
Reaching a million views on youtube? Nah erm.. I have been listening to Newz, Illone, Dan Downing and 2kolderz since I was 14. Now I have worked with all of them. Even though they may not be famous, it was a huge achievement for me to work with rappers I grew up listening to; I never expected it at all. I guess working with Joe Budden is the goal I'm aiming towards now.

What is your next big project, any big plans coming up?
Erm not really, I'm just taking life as it comes at the moment. I have spoken to Mistah Biggz, Cracker and Veks about doing a 6 track EP with them but nothing has progressed as of yet. I am also remixing some Dan Downing tracks and I think he will be putting out an EP with them on. Right now I'm just concentrating on making beats really, I might put out an instrumental album if i can get the artwork, cd's, and promotion sorted.

Any last words?
